Unit 8 / DMRS - The Fast Response Boat


Unit 8 members took part in a Safety and Fundraising afternoon at the Ladner Yacht Club on May 29th, with demonstrations of recovering people from the water, hot oxygen re-warming, VHF radio tips, and familiarization with our fast-response-craft (see the Gallery for pics). The Unit also participated in the Ladner MayDays parade on May 30th, handing out Safe Boating Guides and Bobby the Safety Boat colouring books, while walking the parade route with kids wearing PFDs riding in our fast-response-craft (see the Gallery for pics).

The boat is based in the Point Roberts Marina in Point Roberts, Washington in order provide immediate access to the Straight of Georgia. It also makes for good public visibility. The Marina provides complimentary moorage and also provides space for the unit base trailers to house safety equipment, parts and supplies, and to provide a place for SAR crews to change into their gear.
